The future of
hypnotism
We need to look at the changes in the science of hypnotism
over the last couple of decades to make a logical assumption
as to its future.
Skepticism
As late as the 1980's, the level of skepticism was four
times higher than it is today, with many clients seeking out
hypnotists in secret. The prevalent fear was a concern over
not coming out of the hypnotic state. That has subsided to
less than 10% today.
Awareness
Over the last five years, mass media outlets have
programmed, produced or published hundreds of positive
reports on the benefits of hypnotism. Today, many
corporations are offering hypnosis therapy to their
employees.
Stage
hypnotists versus consulting hypnotists
Fifteen to twenty years ago, approximately eighty percent of
hypnotists were stage hypnotists or hobbyists - for
entertainment purposes. Today those numbers have reversed,
with eighty percent of hypnotists offering consulting
hypnotism versus performing stage shows. Many hypnotists do
both, as do I.
